Over 3,000 acacia seedlings raised and planted in degraded sites

From school nurseries to community land, indigenous acacia is returning to the savanna — and communities are learning to propagate and manage it themselves.

Acacias are iconic indigenous trees of the African savanna. Kenya is home to 4 of the 62 acacia species recorded in East Africa found nowhere else. Yet acacia habitats are declining due to deforestation, charcoal burning, settlements and climate change.

Our restoration program has now raised and planted over 3,000 assorted acacia seedlings. We train communities, institutions and organizations to identify, propagate, grow and manage acacia, and donate seeds and seedlings for restoration.

  • School tree nurseries run by students
  • Hands-on propagation and aftercare training
  • Seed and seedling donations to partner groups
