Protecting ostrich nests opens the door to monitoring the whole ecosystem — from Masai giraffes and elephants to pangolins and vultures.
We use the Masai ostrich as a flagship species to engage communities in monitoring the state of the ecosystem and protecting other endangered wildlife.
These include African elephants, Masai giraffes, wild dogs, pangolins, leopard tortoises and Egyptian and Rüppell's griffon vultures, amongst other mammals, birds, reptiles and insects that depend on acacia habitats.
